Locate My iPhone
At the back of my mind I’ve always wanted to have a Google Maps image on my site showing my approximate position. One evening while searching for Apps for my iPhone I stumbled across SendLocation which uses the GPS functionality of an iPhone to display its current location with an option to push the co-ordinates to a URL. I already knew a little about the Google's Map APIs so I thought I could put the App to good use.

With a resurrected installation of MySQL which I already had kicking around on my server I decided to put something together with PHP. All-in-all it only took an evening to do with few more evenings polishing the rough edges, add security and to build this page.

If you fancy doing similar I strongly recommend you to check out the SendLocation App in iTunes or keep one eye out on my progress to develop a similar App for the iPhone.

A Small Note

Just so you know... I don’t always have the SendLocation App running so the location of my iPhone can be a little out of date, possibly by a day or two. If I’m indoors the accuracy can be thrown a out by a large margin so don’t be surprised if it looks like I’m swimming in the boating lake! In addition I’ve also added added a ‘fudge-factor’ to the co-ordinates so you can’t pin me right down.
